How multi-currency tracking works in Folko
Every cashbook has a base currency. Every transaction can be entered in any currency — Folko fetches the exchange rate at the time of the transaction and stores both the original amount and the converted equivalent. This means:

A $200 hotel bill recorded during a trip is converted at the rate that was live on that date — not today's rate. Your spending history stays accurate even as currencies fluctuate over time.
Automatic conversion on shared expenses
When you split a transaction with cashbook members, Folko converts everyone's share to their preferred display currency. Each person sees their balance in the currency that makes sense to them.
Spending Overview in your base currency
Charts and totals in Spending Overview always show in your cashbook's base currency, so you get an apples-to-apples picture of where your money went — regardless of which currency each transaction was in.

Folko uses a two-tier system to ensure exchange rates are always available, even if one source has an outage.

Rates are cached locally on your device so the app remains functional when you're offline — you'll always have the most recent successfully fetched rates available. The cache refreshes daily when a connection is available.

If the primary source is unavailable, a fallback to the fawazahmed0/currency-api (340+ currencies via jsDelivr CDN) kicks in automatically. Rates are cached locally so the app works even when offline — you'll always have the most recent available rates.
Can I track expenses in crypto?
Folko focuses on fiat currencies and uses reputable exchange rate sources. Cryptocurrencies are not currently supported as transaction currencies — their volatility makes historical expense tracking unreliable. You can log crypto-related purchases by entering the fiat-equivalent value at the time of the transaction.
